Day 4 Sport 4: Tennis

 Tennis

Today in the sideline scoop i did a full session of tennis, unlike the other sports that i have already covered, tennis is one sport that i do not play that often so i felt it would be good to do a full session to try and improve as much as possible

Warm-up Exercises

Similar to the other days I always start with a dynamic warm-upsomething pretty crucial to avoid injuries and improve performance. I start with light jogging around the court, gradually increasing my pace; this gets my heart rate up and helps to get the blood flowing. Next, I incorporate some dynamic stretches for example; high knees, arm circles. These help loosen my muscles up, along with my joints.

From there, I go into some sports-specific drills. Lateral shuffles are done to simulate the side-to-side movements I would eventually do in a match, with some quick footwork drills. A few minutes of shadow swings allow me to focus on my form without the pressure of actually hitting a ball. An extensive kind of warm-up will prepare my body and also gives me mental focus for the session ahead.

Main Session Activities

Now that my body is warmed up and readyI go in to the core of my training. First of all, I start playing an accuracy drill on half of the court. The goal of this drill will lie in hitting the ball into an identifiable marked area across the net for precision and control. Each stroke allows me to further perfect technique, whilst carrying this out I pay attention to how I standangle my racket, and the follow through of the swing.

After several rounds of accuracy drills, I move on to a match-paced game. I find a partner at a similar skill level to me which makes the activity more exciting due to a good level of competitiveness. We hit rallies with each otherkeeping an even pace and hitting forehands, backhands, volleys, and serves.

Finisher Activity

I wrap up with a finisher activity of fun and fitness together: a mini-tournament format where we play against each other in short sets inside of the servicecourt lines. This can also reinforce some of the things that we have practiced, including drops shots and improving our accuracy whilst keeping the feeling of match conditions.

This will conclude day 4 of the sideline scoop, check back in tomorrow for the final day of trying 5 sports in 5 days!
